Soil Health Day

The New York Soil Health Field Days is a statewide April–October 2026 field day series led by New York Soil Health and partners. The Bethlehem Environmental Commons, Glenmont, NY is pleased to be chosen as the Albany County site.

These field days are designed to:

  • Share practical, on-farm soil health strategies

  • Demonstrate cover cropping and conservation practices

  • Provide region-specific insights for farmers and land managers

The August session highlights the use of cover crops and their role in building soil structure and health. Participants can expect to see live demonstrations of soil health practices in action, including cover crop plots and hands on soil assessments. The program typically brings together farmers, researchers, and extension specialists to share real world experiences and discuss management strategies that can be applied across different agricultural systems. The field day is designed to be interactive, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas, and learn directly from both practitioners and experts in the field.

Trail Work

We will be doing some trail maintenance and site cleanup in preparation for the hillside native plant trail and kiosk

This is an opportunity to spend time outdoors while helping care for the trails and surrounding farmland as we prepare for visitors and trail walkers.

Note: In these areas there is a variety of debris both vegetative and trash. Some debris could have sharp edges or rust. Gloves are advised.

Please bring your own gloves and any small tools that will assist in the effort. Some suggestions are: Gloves, Clippers, Shovels, Trash collection containers or bins (reuseable), wagon/wheelbarrow/garden cart, etc…

We enthusiastically welcome teams or groups! We ask that coach(es) or advisor(s) oversee the needs of the group by being onsite and interacting with your group. Parent involvement is welcome as well.

We hope you come and join in for the time you are able.

Together we will care for this new community space.
