Bethlehem Environmental Commons (BeECO) was formed with support from the Food and Farm Law Clinic at Pace University and is a legally established 501c3, not for profit organization.

BeECO is a grassroots organization with a volunteer board comprised of community members. It was established to plan and implement environmental, conservation and sustainability goals and develop an urban farm initiative in the Town of Bethlehem.

We support increased farming opportunities and land access.

We seek to identify the key components of a robust food supply chain. We acknowledge that viable food production, processing, storage and distribution play a crucial role in food security and sustainability for the Greater Capital Region of New York.

We will work to secure funding to remediate deficiencies, build capacity, organize volunteer efforts, engage community and support farmers.

Honor the past, innovate the future

A rural scene with grassy field, large trees, with the Heath barn and silo in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

It is with gratitude and humility that we acknowledge that we are learning, speaking and gathering on the ancestral homelands of the Mohican and Munsee Lenape people, who are the indigenous peoples of this land. Despite tremendous hardship in being forced from here, today their community resides in Wisconsin and is known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. We pay honor and respect to their ancestors past and present as we commit to building a more inclusive and equitable space for all.
